Unless you’ve been hiding under a media rock, you’ll have noticed that ‘wellness’ has become a thing. Working on feeling good about yourself is du jour. Every office, studio, shared space and community should hop on the band wagon, because workshops that are good for you are good for business too.
Of course, the types of wellbeing activity will come and go. Whether it’s putting hot stones on your back à la Gwyneth Paltrow or swinging off a trapeze whilst in a yogic stretch, one thing they all have in common, and that you need to master before doing any of these activities, is breathing.
Breathing, we can have no doubt, will always remain, until the very end. But instead of being the loyal friend in the shadows, the one you don’t think about, it’s going to be really big. Centre-stage big.
‘Really?’ I hear you say with a small level of doubt. Well if it’s anything to do with the two founders of Inspiration Space it will.
These three ladies, Rebecca Dennis, Jess Horn and Aimee Hartley get breathing in a big way and have been sharing their knowledge about a certain type of breathing that can open up your heart and mind and make you feel great. It’s called:
Transformational breathing workshops can be held in a group or one to one. It involves breath work therapy combining conscious breathing, gentle body mapping (similar to acupressure), movement and toning (vocal sound). The techniques used in Transformational Breath® can benefit the participant’s body, mind and spirit, improving well-being and raising consciousness, they say.
Based in London, they like to take their retreats to the English countryside when possible, to get some fresh air and be surrounded by nature, space and quiet.
“Transformational Breathing is secretly attracting a hugely diverse range of clients, from stressed hedge fund managers responsible for other people’s millions to those who want to lose weight. Transformational Breathing is awesome.” Tatler Magazine
The list of physical, mental and emotional benefits are too long to list here, but they range from improving your posture, increasing positive thinking, coping skills, concentration, intimacy and self love. Read and absorb here
The Trick is to Keep Breathing
On these retreats, the breathing classes can be worked around your schedule, and can be held in addition to any other activity within the grounds or spaces at our houses.
Within these workshops you learn about:
- the importance of breathing well,
- learn and practice deep diaphragmatic breathing,
- understand why we adopt unhealthy breathing habits and
- how best to improve your respiratory system for better physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
All elements you’d think you may have understood in your ripe old years. (I know, I know: you’re 21).
At the end of the workshops you will learn practical tools which can help you maintain a healthy breathing practice.
If you recoil at the thought of team away day workshops fuelled by mindfulness, health and well being, well don’t be. ‘Stress affects one in five of the working population from the newest recruit on a work placement to the board of directors and is now the single biggest cause of sickness in the UK with over 105 million days are lost to stress each year – costing UK employers £1.24 billion’. Stress is a serious time waster at work, and it deserves no place in our daily lives. Imagine giving your lovely, less ripe colleagues in the office the gift of good breathing, a way to combat stress and a way to concentrate better at such a young age! I know I’d appreciate it!
