YOU’RE GETTING MARRIED!
Congratulations! What a wonderful time you have ahead of you both! The future is bright and it has the two of you in it together! Once the champagne celebrations have quietened down to a simmer and you’ve changed your Facebook status to fully fledged betrothed, now’s the time to start thinking about what you’re going to do and more importantly when!?! Here we share a few tips to consider for your wedding planning so you know you’re on the right path.
Step 1: Creating Your Vision
There’s heaps of inspiration on Pinterest, (see our boards here) magazines, online and almost everywhere but the beginning of your wedding planning process is the time to think about what you want. When you’re ready, sit quietly and draw out the ideas you have – quite literally – in your mind. Even if you haven’t even considered the details of your wedding before, I think you’ll be surprised at how easily ideas come to mind. When you’re thinking about your wedding, what colours are around you, what size is everything, and how much of it? Do you have a theme, what are people enjoying doing the most, what are you most pleased with? From there you’ll realise your priorities.
Step 2: Seeking Advice
If imagining your wedding on your own is not your style, lean on the skills of a professional or a person, website or source of inspiration to help give you ideas. I agree it’s not every day you have to consider invitation styles or flower arrangements so it’s good to get the reassurance of others in the know. Plus it’s so much more exciting when talking ideas through with other people. If you are talking to an expert, they will instinctively know what to ask you in order to work out what you might want.
Step 3: Making Decisions (and sticking to them)
Once you have done the important bit of booking a venue and a date, you can have a small breather before narrowing down further details. Each wedding couple has their own unique way of getting to their final choice whether that’s only giving yourself a few options to choose from or else going around in circles with one hundred. There is much truth in the saying that you can never be too organised when planning your wedding and you’ll want to give yourself a fighting chance to get the suppliers of your choice.
Step 4: Crunching Numbers and Invitations
Many people agree the hardest part to any wedding is ‘getting the numbers down’. There is a definite way of working this out so that you don’t have to backtrack or break the budget. First of all, make sure you set a maximum number and start small – with the crucial people first and grow outwards. Once you send out invitations, and receive a few declines, you are free to go on and invite the next few names on your list. Remember it is your day, when you get to invite exactly who you want.
Step 5: Taking Time Out
Within the wedding run up, when it looks like you have a calm moment or weekend, book in a fun activity, unrelated to wedding planning, with some important people you want to feel particularly involved in the wedding but who may not have had an opportunity to. An afternoon doing something together can be a great experience to be cherished forever.
And finally, relax!
When you’re at the beautiful venue, everything in order and proceedings in the trusted embrace of an experienced event team, all you can do is relax and enjoy! Your ideas will have come together harmoniously to make the most perfect celebration. Surrounded by friends and family, you can let your hair down (hairstyle permitting) and enjoy every single minute of it.
