Brush away those grey skies and bring in the new. Spring is the perfect time to be looking inward, discarding the things you have no use for and to move forward.
Half the hurdle is giving yourself, in your busy schedule, an allotted time for reflection which is why using the changing season is the mother nature of all excuses to really do it this year. If that won’t inspire you to block out the date, what about making it a work thing? If you’re boss needs convincing, have a read as to why businesses need to retreat sometimes, burst into their office and list all the great reasons and nearby places you can go (we can give you five) for mid week, two night retreats. For all the business benefits some time-out can offer, it really is a productive no brainer.
Energy levels are up in spring, the eyes are bright and the year is shaping up (hopefully better than the last, right?!) At Canvas and Stone, we all give our houses serious spring cleans and renovations in the first part of the year so that they’re ready for the next season, which means anyone coming to them early in the year, get to be the first to enjoy them. The houses’ exclusive hire means you have total run of the place to make it your own, create your own programme and do exactly what you please.
So if you were to ponder the idea of a retreat in spring, what would it look like? Below we share a few ideas.
Healthy Spring Retreat:
Because lot of how you feel depends on what you put in your body, we know the food during your stay is of utmost priority. We have some select menus you can choose from, but if you are looking for something in particular, our in house chefs can work with you to create the healthy, “free from” menu that perfectly nourishes the mind and ignites the soul.
We can arrange for professional teachers for yoga, pilates or breathing workshops and animated, inspiring group mediators to come and conduct the particular sessions, dependent on what you are looking for.
And of course if it’s to be outside as much as possible, making the most of the countryside, we have endless options for beautiful, circular walks passing some of the UK’s finest landscapes to send you off on. Early morning walks with meditation style purpose to them can be a great start to the day.
Time Out Retreat:
You may think it strange for a work group to plan to have time away from the office to “do nothing” but if structured, having time-out can be very productive. Especially when you take everyones phones away from them! The mind gets to wander and you relax. You have the time to re-evaluate the important things – personal or professional, and a group of people to talk them through with. A long soak in a beautiful bath may be the perfect moment when you think through some issues, or playing billiards with a guy you don’t know that well from work might be a real eye opener. Being together, you get the chance to connect, open up and share an experience. Encourage people at the beginning to use this time well, and make sure you get to share learnings along the way and round up before you leave to really make the most of each other’s experiences and thoughts. Sharing ideas with a group only serves to challenge and strengthen a group’s dynamic, which for a work team, can be very empowering.
Workshop/ Learning Retreat:
On top of being able to enjoy the house and grounds and some time away, you can also bring in some professional expertise to lead your group in some morning and afternoon workshops. We have spacious rooms for group workshops, or smaller spaces for one to one’s or breakout sessions. The workshops can be fun and creative or else structured according to your team’s goals during your stay. Our event managers will be on hand to ensure that every element of your stay runs like clockwork so that you too get to relax and enjoy your time away too.
How to structure your stay:
Of course you can do this exactly how you want, this is just an example of how you can plan your time with us.
** Day One:
Arrival and Afternoon Tea to shake of the feeling of a car journey.

** Day Two:
Healthy Breakfast – Each of our houses have celebrated breakfasts using local, organic produce throughout.
Morning Walk – Taken before or after breakfast weather dependent, it’s a great start to the day.
