The success of a venue is not just in the aesthetic, but in the hosts and team behind it all. We know how important it is that the right people are involved in creating truly special events for some of the greatest milestones in your life. Here we talk to Event Manager Leesa from Elmore Court, one of the team who has been integral to Elmore’s rising popularity. Here we find out a few of her favourite things.
How long have you worked at Elmore Court?
I have been at Elmore since the beginning, August 2013! In fact Anselm showed me around when the Gillyflower was just a hole in the ground and the house was in the process of being completely renovated (marvel at that here). It’s funny to think how far we have come, how Elmore has transformed and the amazing events we have had here over the past three years.
What were you doing before?
I have been working in weddings and events for over 20 years. After studying hospitality, I began a career working at major sporting venues and have worked at Ascot, Wimbledon and Cheltenham racecourse where I met my husband. We moved back to the Cotswolds and worked together for a prestigious hotel and outside catering company where I helped organise catering events from weddings, charity polo matches and even naked sushi (don’t ask!). I have always had a passion for organising events and have probably organised over 1000 weddings, which sounds crazy but it’s true! I came to meet Anselm and he offered me the job the next day, the rest as they say is history!
What is your favourite time of year at Elmore?
Elmore has something special to offer all year round, I really love May and June when the blossom is on the trees and the flowers in the meadow are at their best! But equally lovely is a crisp winter’s day with frost on the grass and we can light the fires in the house and make it all cosy with candlelight.
Where is your favourite spot to be on the grounds?
I love the views from the roof of the house you can see for miles over the Severn Vale and towards the Forest of Dean and then facing East across to the Cotswold Hills at Painswick and Haresfield beacon, I really am so lucky to work in such a beautiful place and it is easy to see why so many people travel from far and wide to stay at Elmore.
Which has been your most memorable event you’ve held there?
There are too many to pin-point one but I love the weddings when people take the house for a couple of days and we can really get to know the guests. I managed a lovely wedding last year and the couple lived in Australia but they were from the UK and had all of the family over and everybody had such a great time. The bride and groom knew that this was going to be the one time when you get everybody you love in one place for a single moment and they made the most of it, at the end when it was time to leave it was quite emotional and I was very sorry to say goodbye and they didn’t want to leave Elmore. It really does have a lasting impression on people.
Which is your favourite room?
My favourite room in the house would be the Oak Room with it’s copper bath, and lovely views over the front of the court, I would love to be able to take a long soak in the bath and read a book, perhaps with a nice bottle of bubbly!
And I’m sure you’ve day dreamed about this since you started. If you had a party at Elmore, what would you do?
I would have a massive party and invite all of my friends and family over for a delicious banquet in the Gillyflower served along the long tables. There would have to be lots of Dom Perignon and Laurent Perrier Rose Champagne, some live music provided by Adele and The Arctic Monkeys with Mumford and Sons providing an acoustic set on the cedar lawn!
Adele, Monkeys, Mumford, or even Anselm (!) if you’re listening…!
