We love the idea of combining the tradition of Christmas with a few new props, ideas or features, to keep you and your guests on your toes. Even if it is the last tiring month of the year, it’s a fun time of year so let’s give it the attention it deserves and make it even more creative. Here we share some alternative ideas to the usual decor and treats that you fall back on year after year.
Alternative Christmas Decor:
Turn your usual festive ideas on their head. Break the rules and bring in something blue, borrowed, new, old. Yes, yes we aren’t at a wedding. But why not pull in what you’ve learnt from the year, the events you’ve been to, the millions of photos you’ve locked eyes on and bring them into your Christmas.
Change the candle colour, create a different table design, break the mould and don’t use green and red. Creating a different visual landscape will be memorable and more inspiring.
Often going for the non-Christmas themed products can be more economical and you can then use them again later in the year, saving you much stress when you’re looking for some candles/ wrapping paper/card for a birthday present.
Everyone’s a winner with some gold. The lights are low and lunch can often roll into dinner time, so why not have a dash of evening glamour to take you through until the 9pm viewing.
Pom-poms are still so popular. Whether at a birthday, wedding or Christmas they speak volumes, quite literally. Add bright colours, various sizes and scatter liberally.
Take some inspiration from florists flower arrangements and create some beautiful centrepieces that touch on the specialness of the occasion, but don’t pander to the usual reindeer ornament, cracker combination.
You don’t need to buy new things, just take your classic Christmas decorations and do something different with them. You only have to have one simple reference to Christmas, like some pine branches and you’re away.
If you have more than just your immediate family and friends with you, make some fun name place cards. Include photos so each has a story to tell.
